Weekly Update #16

Grad Information

Grad Gowns

We have a number of students who have not given their Gown Size to their Connect teachers.  If your students is one of them, please have them come to the office to view the sizing chart.

Grad Charity

RTHS Grad Committee is excited to announce I Can for Kids as the grad charity for the class of 2025! I Can for Kids is a local charity which addresses food insecurity for kids and families in Calgary. Their work focuses on the distribution of grocery cards rather than food items which gives families the agency and dignity to shop for and buy food that meets the needs of their family.

Students overwhelmingly identified food insecurity in our community as something that they wanted their legacy to support and we are very excited to be working with I Can for Kids this year. The first fundraising opportunity is next week in the space.Bring 5 or more coins to our stall in the space or Dock in exchange for a candy cane.

Little Me Pictures

Students are asked to submit little me photos for the creation of a photo slide show at grad banquet. Find a picture of your little self and recreate it today. More info will be available on D2L and Instagram.

Athletics

Basketball season is underway. We have had some tough games already, but both our girls’ teams have played and won their first two regular season games. Way to go! All four teams will be playing in their first tournament this weekend. Seniors will be playing at the Nelson Mandela Invitational, and our Juniors will be playing in the Turner Bowl at Central Memorial. There is typically a gate fee for tournaments, so we ask that spectators be prepared for that.

Our school, like most high schools, continues to have a closed gym policy. Spectators who are family members of the athletes playing, or current students of the playing schools will be admitted. Arms Length Security will be supporting the care and safety of all attendees. Students are reminded to bring their school IDs with them. We ask that spectators remain in the main gym for the duration of the game. Thank you for your support in creating a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe community.

Our Swim team competed in their first meet this week and had a great day – a total of 44 races for our 12 Thirsk swimmers. Swimmers were super supportive of each other, while cheering and encouraging each other to swim their best.  Everyone showed incredible improvement over the season and achieved a best time in at least one event.

Our Wrestling athletes have started their season and have been training with the athletes and coaches up at North Trail High School.
